Mouneissa Wangara

Community Liaison / Administrative Assistant

Mouneissa was born in Timbuktu, Mali, and immigrated to the United States in 2007. Before arriving in the U.S., she studied Private Law at the University Ben Abdallah in Fes, Morocco, where she earned a three-year license degree in Private Law.

With a desire to continue her legal studies, Mouneissa came to California in 2007 on a student visa. However, she soon realized that her dreams of becoming a lawyer faced significant challenges, including language barriers, financial issues, and the complexities of the immigration process. While her path changed, her determination to connect with a like-minded community and assist others in similar situations remained steadfast.

In 2018, Mouneissa earned a BA in International Studies from California State University, East Bay (formerly known as California State University, Hayward). She joined AAN as an intern in 2018 and transitioned into a staff member in 2019. Working at AAN, she has found her calling by actively supporting the African community. She plays a key role in building connections, organizing educational workshops, and advocating for language access and immigrant voting rights. Mouneissa collaborates closely with community members and local officials to ensure that African immigrants have the resources and support they need.

Mouneissa is fluent in French, English, Bambara, and Songhai, enabling her to connect with diverse communities and amplify their voices.
